World on a String: Susan Gordon’s Spinning Globes

Share

The holiday season really is upon us now, as the calendar rings in autumn and the weather begins to turn.

You know how this goes—summer passes by, then comes Halloween, and then you blink and you’re sipping mulled cider or eggnog and fretting over whether you’ve got enough plates to host the family for a holiday dinner.

The world turns and turns, and sometimes it feels like it’s spinning so fast I’m not sure how we don’t all need Dramamine.

But I digress. The holidays are all but here, and speaking of the world spinning, New York–based jeweler Susan Gordon has the collection that’s a perfect choice for holiday gifting.

The Spinning Globe collection is an incredible, heirloom-worthy line of pendants and bracelets that positively pops—probably because the pieces are three-dimensional, but their beautiful detail and warm gold settings don’t hurt either.

“I always loved spheres and thought it would be cool to make a globe that you could wear long and be able to spin around,” says Gordon. “I formed the globes on a rubber ball, then cut into two halves for casting.”

Scripture was the first to come (pictured at top); a coiled nest of golden twists, merging around diamonds in a range of sizes. The designer’s favorite, the leaf globe features hand-carved leaves curving over the shape of the sphere, diamond lines bisecting each.

If it’s color you want, see the butterfly version above, with a collection of 28 gemstones including Paraiba tourmaline, tanzanite, aquamarines, Swiss blue topaz, spinel, pink tourmaline, and tsavorite, in addition to diamonds.

And then there are the mini pendants served up on Gordon’s handmade link bracelets. For shoppers seeking extravagance with less of an anything-goes budget, the selections feature charming versions of the globes that beg to be collected and worn alongside other treasured styles.

Susan Gordon launched her business in 2017 and has earned the adoration of the industry in just a short time. The designer’s Leaf cuff bracelet, in 22k yellow gold with diamonds, was the Best Bracelet Influencers’ Choice winner in the 2022 JCK Jewelers’ Choice Awards.
