BlumLux’s new downtown location, pre-renovation

Indianapolis Jeweler Looks to Reinvent the Jewelry Store

Nick Blum, designer and owner of Blumlux Jewelry plans to build a four-story jewelry store in the hopes of enticing millennials back to brick-and-mortar retailers.

The new 14,000-square-foot store, located in downtown Indianapolis, will house four retailers, including Blum’s BlumLux Boutique.

Blum hopes to fight the growing number of closing jewelry businesses, which increased by 32 percent in 2014, by creating a place that connects to the younger generation of buyers.

“It’s not like we are not getting married or not buying jewelry, we’re just finding different ways to buy it,” said Blum. “The traditional jeweler doesn’t speak well to our generation…we want an easygoing, comfortable, and unique experience.”

The Indianapolis store will feature a walk-in front shop for lower-priced collections and a secret back room for high-end productsand bridal collections.

The back room, while hidden, will be available to all interested customers.

“I want this to be a place where people can just come, hang out, and enjoy a drink or cigar,” Blum said.

Development is expected to begin in September with an opening in early winter of 2016.
