Scott Kay and FIT Announce Winner of Annual Jewelry Design Contest

Scott Kay and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) have announced the winner of their annual design contest, now in its third year. The competition, which asks its student entrants to design a bridal jewelry set evocative of the Scott Kay brand, is under the supervision of FIT jewelry design faculty member Alison Nagasue.

The entrants submitted their ideas for an engagement ring along with a choice of two other pieces—a bracelet, necklace, or pair of earrings—through detailed inspiration boards, technical drawings, measurement details, materials, and color options.

Submissions went through two rounds of judging by a panel composed of Melissa Rose Bernardo, managing editor of JCK magazine; Kayla Hayes, fashion and beauty editor of Bridal Guide magazine; and David Gaynes, vice president of corporate product development at Signet Jewelers. Representing Frederick Goldman, owner of the Scott Kay brand, were CEO Jonathan Goldman and executive vice president of sales Rich Makover.

The winner was announced during a dinner that played host to the five finalists on Feb. 5 in New York City. Hyelin Lee took the top prize of $3,000 for her presentation. Monetary awards were presented to the remaining four entrants as well.
