Diamonds Do Good Includes the Brave of Heart Fund in 2020 Grant

Diamonds Do Good has announced that it will include support of the Brave of Heart Fund, which provides relief for eligible family members of frontline health care workers and health care volunteers who have lost their lives to COVID-19, in its 2020 grant giving.

Through cash grants, the Brave of Heart Fund, which was created by New York Life Foundation and Cigna Foundation, provides basic and continuing financial support for families’ common needs including funeral costs for the lost family member, medical care, counseling, food, educational expenses for children and other dependents currently in school, mortgage or rent payments, and immediate living expenses.

“While DDG’s mission is and continues to be benefiting people in diamond communities and helping to share the stories of the positive impact of natural diamonds, these are unprecedented times,” said DDG president Anna Martin, in a statement. “To help the families of those who are working to keep all of us safe from COVID-19 is not only the right thing to do, it’s also another example of how the diamond industry has a beneficial impact on the world at large.”

Support for the fund will come from voluntary donations for DDG’s Virtual Global Conference, which will be held at 11 a.m.–12 p.m. ET on July 30. The live, interactive event will include viewpoints from De Beers’ Bruce Cleaver, Signet’s Gina Drosos, Alrosa’s Sergey Ivanov, Rosy Blue’s Russell Mehta, and Chow Tai Fook’s Kent Wong. Diamonds Do Good cofounder and civil rights advocate Dr. Benjamin Chavis will give the opening remarks, and magic artist David Blaine will be making a special appearance.

While the event is free, donations are greatly welcomed, and those of $50 or more will receive a Green Bracelet as a thank-you gift. Early sponsors of Diamonds Do Good include De Beers, Chow Tai Fook, JCK Industry Fund, GIA, IGI, and Jewelers of America.
