Bonhams auction house’s global jewelry department had its most successful year to date in 2023, recording total sales of $75.5 million. With 87 auctions—58 of them held online only—across seven sales locations, Bonhams said it has retained its position as the U.K.’s jewelry market leader for the past 13 years.

“Bonhams jewelry continues to see growth and success across the globe, selling notable lots of over $1 million in 2023,” said Jean Ghika, Bonhams’ global director for jewelry, in a statement. “Highlights included two single-owner sales in the U.S.: The Perfect Jewelry Box and Barbara Walters: American Icon, which achieved $6.5 million and $1.74 million, respectively. Both were white-glove sales with 100% of lots sold.

“Other standout moments included the discovery of two early-20th-century Chaumet jewels: a diamond tiara necklace, circa 1910, sold in Paris for €279,800, and a rare and delicate Chaumet fringe diamond necklace, sold in London for £305,200. In 2024 we will continue to expand our offering, allowing clients access to jewels at all prices.”
