HPHT diamond company Suncrest is now producing stones in Pantone’s Color of the Year Radiant Orchid, it announced.
They are produced by subjecting natural diamonds to an HPHT (high pressure, high temperature) treatment, followed by annealing and radiation, the company said.
The color is a variation of the pink stones it currently produces, says Sonny Pope, general manager of the Orem, Utah–based company.
“GIA would probably call it a purplish-pink,” he says. “We always liked the Radiant Orchid color. It was purer, it was vibrant. We didn’t know it would be Color of the Year.”
“It was always our favorite color,” he continues. “Now it’s everyone else’s favorite color.”
In 2011, Suncrest showed JCK its factory and diamond-treating process.
