Stone and Strand and Sporty & Rich’s Emily Oberg Team Up for Collection

Downtown New York City jewelry retailer Stone and Strand has teamed up with style influencer Emily Oberg, founder of the Sporty & Rich lifestyle brand, for a capsule collection of sports-inspired fine jewelry, Emily Oberg x Stone and Strand.

Canadian-born Oberg is one in a billowing number of young-and-beautiful urban style influencers whose mini empires inspire those millennials and Gen Zers obsessed with the latest “drops” from coveted streetwear brands such as Supreme and Yeezy.

Oberg’s Sporty & Rich platform includes an artsy fashion magazine, a mood board–esque Instagram feed, and e-commerce (she sells limited-edition sweats that have become collectible in streetwear circles).

Sporty & Rich is an ode to high-end sportswear mixed with high fashion, and the five-piece capsule collection—crafted in solid 10k gold with diamonds—reflects that playful marriage.

The two rings, anklet, stud earring, and dog tag necklace all feature a two-digit number, rendered in blocky fonts designed to recall the numbers on team jerseys. Shoppers pick the two-digit number they’d like to see immortalized on their jewelry piece.

The collection’s aesthetics are timeless and sports-specific.

The Bold Double Number ring ($325) and diamond-studded Double Number Pavé Signet ring ($375) look like they came off the pinkies of 40-something former quarterbacks. The Double Number anklet ($195), which pairs a delicate gold chain with a swinging number 27, and the simple Double Number stud earring ($95), could be mistaken for actual sports-team mementos instead of the fashion-forward trinkets they actually are.

The conflation is intentional. Those in on the jewelry’s retro coolness will no doubt love the fact that the pieces could be mistaken for gifts doled out to a suburban softball team at an end-of-year banquet.

Stone and Strand founder Nadine McCarthy Kahane initially approached Oberg as part of the retailer’s Good Girl campaign, which “seeks to challenge existing female stereotypes,” she says, explaining, “Emily isn’t your typical ‘good girl.’ She embodies the mission of someone who is true to herself and doesn’t feel like she has to conform to the expectations of others.”

Kahane was also a fan of Oberg’s “cool and casual sporty vibe,” she reports, and said she thought that her “elevated approach to everyday fashion aligned perfectly with what we do at Stone and Strand from a creative perspective.”

The Emily Oberg x Stone and Strand collection is available now online and in their showroom.
