Stars With Sparkle: Your May 2013 Roundup of Celebrity Bling

Ahh, to be rich, famous, and decorated in diamonds.

Even if you aren’t planning on spending this Memorial Day weekend lounging on a yacht, dressed (and accessorized) to the nines, you can still live vicariously through these glamorous celebrities.

Nicole Kidman Adorns Cartier Jewels for Upcoming Grace Kelly Biopic

Cartier has recreated Grace Kelly’s favorite pieces for the Harvey Weinstein’s upcoming film Grace of Monaco, starring Nicole Kidman. Kelly became Princess Grace of Monaco in 1965 after marrying Prince Rainier III, who proposed to her with a 10.47 carat emerald-cut diamond Cartier ring three days after they met. According to the UK Telegraph, the renowned French jewelry company reproduced the engagement ring for Kidman to wear throughout filming, in addition to a diamond-encrusted poodle brooch, a chicken brooch, a three-strand diamond necklace, and a ruby and diamond tiara. Now those are jewels fit for a princess!

Jessica Chastain Wears Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewels to Cannes Film Festival

Kidman isn’t the only actress decorated in iconic jewels these days. During the 50th anniversary celebration for the film Cleopatra at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21, Jessica Chastain wore Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic sapphire and diamond Bulgari sautoir, featuring a 65-carat center stone; she  further accessorized with Taylor’s trombino sapphire ring. The necklace is part of the eight piece collection that Bulgari bought back from Taylor’s 2011 Christie’s auction. The jeweler, in collaboration with 20th Century Fox, will make a donation to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation to commemorate the film’s anniversary as well as host an after-party where viewers can see Taylor’s jewels up close.

Emma Watson Wasn’t the Cannes Jewel Thief

Earlier this week, my colleague Jennifer Heebner reported on the jewelry heist at the Cannes Film Festival in which $1.4 million worth of Chopard jewels were stolen from a hotel safe. Ironically, the theft coincided with the premiere of the Bling Ring, Sofia Coppola’s film inspired by the real-life teenagers who robbed the homes of celebrities. Emma Watson, who stars in the movie joked about her innocence to the Hollywood Reporter: “Someone stole, like, a million pounds worth of Chopard jewelry from Cannes? I promise it wasn’t me!” Here’s hoping they find the real culprit soon!

Taco Bell Puts a Ring (or 2) on Its Loyal Celeb Fans

While some women express their love by wearing their beau’s name on a necklace, others, like MTV star Jessica Lu, wear jewelry inscribed with the name of their favorite fast-food chain. Taco Bell sent a handful of aspiring starlets—including actress Lu, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen, and Miss California Leah Cecil—two rings in the shape of the words “Taco” and “Bell” to thank them for their patronage. Lu took to Twitter to share her new “engagement.” It seems like it’s a match made in Doritos Loco heaven!

Mindy Kaling Confesses Love for Big Baubles

This month funny girl Mindy Kaling, who stars in her own Fox sitcom The Mindy Project, talked to Us Weekly about her obsession with jewelry. Kaling told the magazine, “I like jewelry that’s big. For the most part, I like for my jewelry to make me feel dainty—not the other way around.” The sitcom star noted that her favorite designers include Jennifer Meyer and Vita Fede, and she stated that one of her favorite pieces in her collection is a vintage rose gold 1968 Rolex oyster watch. But her love for excessive jewelry poses a problem when traveling, Kaling says. “At the airport, it takes me 30 minutes to get through security with all of my jewelry,” she told Us Weekly. We at JCK appreciate a gal who goes the extra mile (or half hour) for her accessories.
