While many fashion magazines have proclaimed that stacked or layered chains are not nearly as current as the statement necklace, not to fear—those voices are more than matched by the numerous editorials and ads featuring the multiple-necklace look.
In the October issue of Marie Claire, singer Gwen Stefani wears a grouping of three identical length dog tag necklaces and a longer chain necklace from David Yurman. She also wears a cuff from Made Her Think, a woven silver ring from David Yurman, a stone ring from Pamela Love, and her own diamond ring. She wears a Belstaff jacket over a top by True Religion, pants from KSI NYC, an Etro Belt, and boots from Giuseppe Zanotti Design.
Actress Eva Longoria appears on the cover of the September issue of Lucky wearing a short Diamonds by the Yard necklace by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co., over which is layered a pavé crystal necklace from Swarovski. Longoria also wears a diamond and 18k white gold ring from Van Cleef & Arpels.
The September 2012 issue of Lucky notes that small gold charms (i.e., pendants) in the Legacy Knot Station necklaces from Coach “look feminine (but not too girly).”
The November 2012 issue of Elle uses stacked necklaces repeatedly in an editorial spread featuring fur. In the above photo, the model wears a short necklace of rubellite, pearls, and diamonds from Van Cleef & Arpels tucked under the collar of her denim shirt, plus an ebony pendant necklace with silver inlay from Patricia von Musulin. The shirt, shorts, and boots are from Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci; the dyed mink coat is from J. Mendel; and the sunglasses are from Mykita.
In a second photo from the November issue of Elle, the model wears a pearl strand necklace with carved turquoise, tourmaline and diamonds, along with earrings of carved ruby, emerald, and diamonds from Madhya Farooqui. That necklace is stacked with a shorter onyx and moonstone necklace and a center-placed one-of-a-kind agate, turquoise, and pearl brooch from Tony Duquette. She also wears coral and white enamel rings from David Webb (obscured in the photo). The model wears a dyed fox jacket from Carmen Marc Valvo, vintage tights from Emilio Cavallini, a Prada shirt, a Burberry Prorsum sweater, and canvas wedges from Stella McCartney. Her perforated leather tote is from Bally.

When it comes to layering necklaces, there are no limits and no rules.
