SSEF Appoints New Director

After 20-plus years as director of the Swiss Gemmological Institute (SSEF), Dr. Henry A. Hänni retired at the end of May. As of June 1, Dr. Michael S. Krzemnicki, the SSEF’s former deputy director, has taken as the lab’s director.

Krzemnicki is an internationally recognized expert in gemology and mineralogy with many years of experience at the SSEF where he worked closely with Hänni. The Foundation Board has been preparing for the change of leadership for some time and is convinced that the transition will go smoothly.

After his retirement, Prof. Hänni will maintain his close links with the SSEF and will continue to support the lab.

Over the last 20 years Hänni and his team have shaped the SSEF laboratory and transformed it into a world-leading gemmological institution. Some of the most important gemstones, diamonds and pearls in the world have passed through their hands. Numerous articles covering all aspects of gemology by Hänni and the SSEF team have appeared in professional journals all over the world.
