Jewelers of America (JA) has hired JCK publisher Mark Smelzer (pictured, right) as a consultant for its new consumer marketing push.
Smelzer will help the trade association develop a consumer marketing initiative to promote jewelry. The initiative is scheduled to debut in early 2019.
Smelzer serves as the publisher of JCK magazine and JCKonline, in addition to heading his own consulting company, Mark Smelzer LLC. Smelzer first joined JCK in 2004. He has also worked at Variety and The Advocate.
“I am thrilled to be consulting with [JA president and CEO] David Bonaparte, [director of public relations and special events] Amanda Gizzi, and [director of marketing and communications] Molly Fallon at Jewelers of America on the structure and rollout of an industry funding mechanism for this consumer marketing initiative,” said Smelzer in a statement. “It’s an honor to work on a program that will benefit the entire industry.”
JA has also hired Elizabeth Brewer as a consultant to its membership department to help enhance engagement with its retail jeweler members.
Brewer has nearly two decades of jewelry industry experience. She previously worked at Brown + Partners, de Boulle Diamond & Jewelry, the American Gem Trade Association, and Diamond Council of America.
She holds a bachelor’s in advertising and public relations from the University of Mississippi and has studied at the Gemological Institute of America.
“The opportunity to collaborate with JA’s team of industry standouts is so exciting for me,” said Brewer in a statement. “I can’t wait to help build partnerships that will be mutually beneficial for retailers and Jewelers of America.”
Added Bonaparte: “The addition of Elizabeth and Mark in consultant roles will play a big part in our continued commitment to membership growth and consumer marketing, which are essential to our mission to improve confidence in the jewelry industry.”
