Single Gold Bar Recovered After North Carolina Gold Heist

A gold bar that was part of a $4.9 million highway heist on March 1 has been recovered in South Florida.

The bar weights 26 pounds and is valued between $470,000 and $500,000.

The heist took place in Wilson County, N.C. A truck carrying approximately $10 million in gold bars was traveling from Florida to Massachusetts when it was stopped. Two armed men forced the driver and passenger out of the truck and took approximately $4.9 million in gold bars.

“We believe that additional gold bars from the robbery may still be in South Florida, and we continue to need the public’s help in solving this crime,” said FBI special agent Justin E. Fleck in a statement.

The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the crime.
