New Book ‘Sea Time’ Is a Love Letter to Dive Watches (Dads Will Like It, Too)

For most of us jewelry professionals, Memorial Day weekend is the calm before the actual storm—said storm being Luxury and JCK Las Vegas.

But a new title from Rizzoli New York brings all your sailing and scuba diving holiday fantasies to life, with a focus of particular interest to jewelers and collectors. Sea Time: Watches Inspired by Sailing, Yachting and Diving explores a century of high-performing, stylish chronometers and their role in water-sport adventures.

Cowritten by Aaron Sigmond and Mark Bernardo (the latter is the digital media editor of WatchTime), Sea Time interweaves history, compelling photography by Peter Eaton Gurnz, and a wide array of snappy, easy-read “portraits” of famous watches that include factual details about maker, inspiration, model name, and water-resistance depth.

Chapters include “The Icons” (the dozen most classic dive watches ever made), “Sailing and Regatta Watches,” “Dive Watches,” and there’s even one on watches made for those who prefer to lounge in maritime or poolside settings (or daydream about doing so).

Aside from being a fine edition to the library of watch aficionados and watch sellers alike, this book is a great, and handsome, Father’s Day gift for the dad in your life. Priced at $85, it releases on May 28.

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the pages.

“If the ‘connoisseur diver’ actually exists, Ulysse Nardin—its chronometer in particular—would arguably be the archetype,” note the authors on page 200.
