Scott Burger to Become Alex And Ani CEO

Scott Burger (pictured), who formerly headed Pandora’s North American jewelry division, has been named the new CEO of Alex and Ani.

Lyndon Lea, founder and managing director of Lion Capital, majority owner of Alex and Ani, confirmed the news to JCK Tuesday. The story originally appeared Monday in The Boston Globe.

The Providence, R.I.–based charm maker filed for Chapter 11 in June but has since been restructured.

Since March 2019, Burger has served as CEO of Classic Brands, a sleepwear company, where he reportedly doubled its sales. He worked for Pandora’s North American jewelry division from 2007 to 2018, eventually becoming president of its North American division in 2011.

Burger has served as the chair of Alex and Ani’s board since 2020 and has remained a member of its five-person board following its bankruptcy. Lea will take over as chairman, he said.

Burger will replace Robert Trabucco, who has served as Alex and Ani’s chief restructuring officer and interim CEO since 2019. Trabucco replaced the company’s founder, Carolyn Rafaelian, who stepped down from the top job after a restructuring. Rafaelian left the company in 2020.

Trabucco, the former chief financial officer of Signet Jewelers, is “still involved and will transition his role over to Scott,” Lea said.

Alex and Ani and a group of related entities officially exited Chapter 11 on Jan. 5, though one affiliated company, Alex and Ani Shareholder Co., remains in Chapter 11 to settle any outstanding claims.

In September, a Delaware judge OK’d Alex and Ani’s Chapter 11 reorganization, which gives London-based Lion Capital 65% of the company, a boost from its 59% stake prior to the bankruptcy. The other 35%—formerly controlled by Rafaelian—was sold to The Bathing Club LLC, owned by attorney Mark Geragos, who previously served as company counsel and is now a member of its board.
