Retailer Saks Holdings Inc. on Thursday said sales in stores opened a year or more fell 10.3% in May as a “double points” SaksFirst propriety credit card event hurt sales, Reuters reported.
The Birmingham, Alabama-based retailer, which runs the luxurious Saks Fifth Avenue stores, said mens’ sportswear and gifts were the best sellers, while women’s clothing, jewelry and tailored men’s apparel did not sell as well.
The company said children’s clothes, junior’s apparel and coats were the best selling items in May at its Saks Department Store Group, which includes 243 stores under the names of Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner’s, Parisian and Boston Store. Mens clothing, dresses and underwear were the worst selling items in that group, the company said in a statement.
