Retailer Saks Holdings Inc., on Thursday said sales in stores open at least a year fell 5.2% for the five weeks ended July 7, compared with a year ago, on soft sales of men’s apparel, jewelry, shoes, and dresses.
The Birmingham, Ala.-based retailer, which runs the luxurious Saks Fifth Avenue stores, said total sales in the period fell 7.6% to $477 million.
Same-store sales at the company’s department store group, which includes Proffitts and Carson Pirie Scott, fell 5.3% from a year earlier. Same-store sales at the Saks Fifth Avenue chain declined 5.2%.
