I blame the sparkling grill for blinding me to all other aspects of his getup. But it took me a few days to notice that U.S. Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte was sporting a hippie-luxe Nialaya beaded bracelet when he accepted his gold medal for the 400 meter individual medley on July 28. The Los Angeles-based jewelry brand made its name by gifting hip-hoppers and soul divas with its blingy bracelets—who happily donned the pieces for high-profile events.
So it makes perfect sense that Lochte, who wears sneakers soled in his own name (a la Kanye West) and has a collection of bedazzled grills, would be into its unabashed flashiness. Me, I’m not a fan of mixing medals. Especially when one of them is Olympic gold.
