Rose Quartz: The 2016 Color of the Year?

The Pantone Spring 2016 Color Report was released last month, featuring some very juicy colors that probably have many wishing they could fast-forward through winter. My favorite hue of the group? Rose Quartz. And not just because it’s named after a gemstone —though that does impart some influence—but because of its gorgeous, blushing shade. That powdery pink has been taking shape the past couple of fall seasons, so I’m not at all surprised—super delighted, in fact—that it’s included in the spring report, albeit in a little less of a dusty hue than what’s on display for fall. According to Pantone, Rose Quartz is a “persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure.” So, does this mean that rose quartz, the gemstone, will have its moment in 2016? Similarly colored gemstones such as morganite have been popular among brands in recent times, but I much prefer the less peachy, rosier tone of the aforementioned gem. It’s definitely not having its huge moment in the sun yet: Numerous requests for products featuring the stone returned a few good responses, but they were not as overwhelming, as, say, tourmaline these days. So, Color of the Year? I’m not sure, and we won’t know the answer to that until Pantone makes its announcement in the coming months. Gemstone of the year? Well, these jewels make a pretty solid argument.
