Rose Gold’s Hold on Fashion

Rose gold presents a vital third option in the color of gold used in
jewelry and has a continuing presence in the fashion press. When not
teamed up with yellow and white gold, occasionally rose gold (sometimes
referred to as pink gold or red gold) is itself featured as a color
trend in the magazines. More often, rose gold jewelry is utilized in
photo shoots but not identified as such in the photo descriptions,
making it difficult to recognize for a couple of reasons: the variations
in the color printing of glossy publications and designers’ utilization
of less costly metals that visibly vary in color from yellow gold.

The May 2011 issue of InStyle highlights rose gold in a
feature on timepieces:  “More low-key than bold yellow, subtle rose gold
fits right in with the season’s minimalist mode. It’s a shade that
dials down the intensity of a chunky timepiece, just a tick.” The
wristwatches pictured are from Michael Kors, Michele, Burberry, Cartier,
Philip Stein and Fossil.

The May 2011 issue of Harper’s Bazaar features the pink gold
version of the new Delices de Cartier timepiece, the design of which
was inspired by the shape of the twisted paper wrappers of French
candies.

The June/July 2011 issue of Town & Country pictures this
watch of stainless steel and rose gold set with diamonds and white
mother-of-pearl from Bertolucci.

Glamour magazine goes beyond wristwatches in its focus on
rose gold: “Everything’s just prettier in Rose Gold,” says Glamour:
“The color of the moment is a little gold, a little pink and so
cute you’ll keep on your jewelry, even at the beach!”  The beach
reference appears to relate to the photo of Vanessa Hudgens. The
featured jewelry consists of a pair of bracelets from Van Cleef &
Arpels, a watch from Curations With Stefani Greenfield; a set of Pandora
rings; Trina Turk drop earrings, and a Lia Sophia ring.

The May 2011 issue of Glamour pictures actress Ashley Greene
in an ensemble by Ralph Lauren Collection accented with a long yellow
gold necklace from James Colarusso and a rose gold and sapphire heart
necklace from Monique Pean.

Rose gold along with yellow and white gold bangles are pictured in
this ad from Roberto Coin published in the June 2011 issue of Elle.

I am exceedingly fond of these designs from the Porto Cervo
Collection by Italian jeweler Antonini pictured in the June/July 2011
issue of Town & Country. The collection features
rhodochrosite and white agate and various shades of smoky and pink
quartz set in an 18 karat rose gold blend.

Rose gold will have a strong presence through the fall season. The
June/July issue of Harper’s Bazaar depicts a “blush crush”:
“Designers have fallen in love with pale pink, making for fall’s
romantic feel.” The jewelry pictured is a pair of drop earrings from
Paige Novick, a pendant necklace from Elsa Peretti for Tiffany &
Co., and a set of cuffs from Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci.

For the woman who wears a rose gold wristwatch, other jewelry made of
rose gold is a logical addition to her jewelry wardrobe. This season,
designers present a virtual bouquet of rosy options.
