During the holiday season, festive ribbons—on gifts, wreaths, and party attire, including jewelry—are often prevalent. But unlike my Christmas tree, bows as either decor or fashion accessory do not get relegated to the crawl space in January for storage until next December.
Like many icons in jewelry, the bow is not trend or fad but has deep roots—from European court culture of the 17th century, to both the romantic and mourning jewelry of Victorian times, through the Belle Epoque and Edwardian periods, and on and on. For every era, there is a bow, and for every bow, there is a jewelry lover eager to don it.
Still, we’re in the midst of a bow renaissance of sorts. While it’s partly due to the popularity of vintage jewelry among consumers, many jewelry brands are creating bows anew—as you can see here, with some of the latest bow jewelry to bring into the new year. Architectural or abstract, flowy and feminine or fashion-forward, these bow jewels satisfy all tastes and budgets.
