Rolex introduced the Perpetual Padellone, a new watch that adds an annual calendar and moonphase model to the company’s Perpetual collection.
The launch, announced Sept. 15 in Milan, draws inspiration from Rolex reference 8171, a mid–20th-century calendar watch known among collectors as the Padellone.
The new model displays the date, day, month, moonphase, hours, minutes, and seconds. According to Rolex, the watch is designed around an instantaneous annual calendar system that automatically accounts for 30-day and 31-day months, while a moonphase display tracks the lunar cycle.
Rolex said the watch is powered by the new caliber 7190 movement, developed exclusively for the Padellone. The self-winding movement operates at 5 Hz and incorporates the company’s Dynapulse escapement technology as well as a new annual-calendar mechanism known as Haplos. The company said 30 patent applications are associated with the movement, including two that are exclusive to caliber 7190.
The 39 mm watch features a dial layout reminiscent of traditional calendar watches. Two apertures at 12 o’clock display the day and month, while a blue-tipped center hand indicates the date around the dial’s perimeter. A moonphase display at 6 o’clock includes representations of the full moon and new moon made from meteorite.
The Perpetual Padellone is available in three versions: an 18k Everose gold model with a new Settimo bracelet, a second Everose gold version on a brown alligator leather strap, and a platinum model with an ice-blue dial and black alligator strap. The watch features a transparent caseback that allows the movement to be viewed.
The introduction marks another expansion of the Perpetual collection, which Rolex debuted in 2023 with the 1908. Hodinkee and Robb Report said the Padellone will be available in limited quantities through authorized Rolex dealers at prices ranging from $59,000 to $72,000.
