The gold coin features a rare red diamond from the company’s Argyle mine
The Perth Mint is playing host, and seller, to a gold coin featuring a 0.54 ct. rare red diamond from Rio Tinto’s Argyle diamond mine in Australia.
Called the Kimberley Treasure, the coin is valued at $761,020 and is made of one kilogram of 99.99 percent fine gold.
The coin is legal Australian tender.
“We are delighted to collaborate with the Perth Mint on the exclusive release of this distinctive investment piece,” said Simon Trott, managing director of Rio Tinto’s diamonds business, in a statement. “It is a beautiful symbol of the unique treasures of Western Australia and sets a new benchmark in limited edition craftsmanship.”
On average, one carat of rare red diamonds is produced by the Argyle mine each year.
