October retail sales were $373.1 billion, an increase of 1.2 percent from
September, the Commerce Department reported.
The number marks a 7.3 percent increase over October 2009.
October ranks as the fourth straight monthly increase. The month’s 1.2 percent
increase was retail’s biggest gain in seven months.
Sales of clothing and accessories, the category that encompasses jewelry, rose
0.7 percent.
