Amazon has expressed interest in buying BJ’s Wholesale Club, according to a report in the New York Post.
The newspaper, quoting unnamed sources, said that the warehouse chain, which has 214 stores in 15 states, has been put up for sale by owners CVC Capital Partners and Leonard Green & Partners, which took the company private in 2011. Amazon, which has been expanding into brick-and-mortar, is among the bidders kicking the tires, the report said.
The report added that buying BJ’s could help Amazon find warehouse space for its Amazon Fresh delivery service, as well as give it a boost in the appliance and furniture sectors.
