The rapper DJ Khaled, who has worked with Drake, Kanye West, and a number of other popular hip-hop artists, has filed a countersuit against Rafaello & Co., the New York–based jewelry designer.

In March, Rafaello & Co. filed suit against Khaled, whose given name is Khaled Mohamed Khaled, claiming that he never paid for or returned two Rolex watches, a custom-made diamond chain, a pair of diamond earrings, and a 4 ct. diamond ring. The company had given him 15 days with the items, after which he was to either pay $100,000 or send them back. They claim he did neither. 

Khaled’s countersuit claims that from 2008 to 2013 he purchased jewelry, watches, and custom-made jewelry from the company and was never once invoiced or given a receipt. He claims the invoices filed with the original lawsuit are fraudulent. He also claims that the company provided him with a fake certificate of appraisal for a gold and diamond Cuban link chain he purchased. He paid $110,000 for the custom-made piece, according to the filing, but later found the piece was worth less than $30,000.

He claims that the jeweler has defrauded him of several hundred thousand dollars and is countersuing for compensation. He also is asking that the original suit against him be thrown out on the grounds that Rafaello & Co. lied about the value of the items and that he never signed an agreement.

Both cases are pending in Florida’s 11th Judicial Circuit Court.
