Ramsey’s Diamond Jewelers Opens Outside of New Orleans

Third-generation fine jewelry store Ramsey’s Diamond Jewelers has opened a new location in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie, La.

The 8,400-square-foot store at 701 Veterans Blvd. will soon be the one and only Ramsey’s location. The retailer’s existing store at 1901 Manhattan Blvd. in Harvey, La., will close this month .

The new diamond-focused fine jewelry store features more than 50 cases of diamond jewels, including 2,000 engagement and wedding rings. There’s also a state-of-the-art gem lab, a custom design studio, and a service center designed for consumers to be able to watch repairs in action.

“When my father opened his little jewelry store 60 years ago, I doubt he ever dreamed it would grow to become Louisiana’s largest diamond showroom,” said CEO Robert Ramsey Jr. in a prepared statement. “But my sister Lori and I like to think that somewhere he’s watching and smiling in approval. After 60 years in business, it was time to invest in our customers and community with our diamond superstore.”

The bright and spacious new store offers private consultations, open-showcase shopping where customers can try things on unassisted, and service level options in between. The retailer is hosting a grand opening sale running through December.

Robert “Bob” Ramsey Sr. opened his first jewelry business, B & J Manufacturing Jewelers, in New Orleans in 1958 to manufacture fine custom jewelry for other jewelers. He debuted Ramsey’s Jewelers in Metairie in 1972, and in 1975 current CEO Robert Jr. joined the company as an apprentice jeweler.

Daughter Lori joined the business in 1980. And Ramsey’s third generation is already in-house: Robert’s son Bobby joined Ramsey’s in 1999 after apprenticing with jewelry stores around the country.

Ramsey’s long-playing radio ads are familiar to New Orleans locals, who’ve been hearing the retailer’s Tony the Tiger–like tagline “Rrrrrrrrrramsey’s Diamond Jewelers” for decades.
