Swiss watchmaker Rado has awarded the Rado Young Designer Award to Christien Meindertsma, chosen by an international design jury in recognition of the originality, inventiveness, and remarkably consequent investigation of materials evident in her work, PIG05049.
The Rado prize was awarded for the first time on Oct. 18th in Eindhoven as part of the Dutch Design Awards 2008.
The Rado Young Designer Award was conceived with the future of design in mind. The Swiss brand seeks actively to promote exceptional talent in the field of contemporary design and contributes in various ways to the education of young designers.
In addition to winning the Rado Young Designer Award, Meindertsma’ won the prize for best graphic design, and she was named winner of the Golden Eye award by the Dutch Design Awards jury. Her award-winning work is on display during Dutch Design Week 2008, the largest design event in the Netherlands.
Meindertsma has shown her work in New York, Tokyo, Milan, and London of late and is due to show again in New York at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum next year.
