Pure Earth, an organization devoted to fighting global pollution, will present Iris Van der Veken, executive director of the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030, with its 2023 Pure Earth Impact Award in a ceremony to be held Oct. 16 in New York City.

“The Pure Earth Impact Award is given annually to individuals whose contributions have resulted in extraordinary impact on global issues protecting people and the planet,” the group said in a statement. “Recipients serve as inspiring examples to all who take action to make positive change in this world.”

Van der Veken “is truly a change agent, and she has sparked a movement that will not only protect the environment, but also the lives of so many people working along the watch and jewelry supply chain,” said Richard Fuller, president and founder of Pure Earth, in its statement.

Prior to the Watch & Jewellery Initiative, Van der Veken worked at the Responsible Jewellery Council and Rosy Blue. The Initiative, founded last year by Kering and Cartier, is guided by the principles of the United Nations Global Compact on sustainability and the U.N.’s 17 sustainable development goals.
