Proposal Watch: Did a Diamond Overshadow Silver?

Looking at two public proposals at the Summer Olympics in Rio

So far, there have been two public proposals at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. On Aug. 8,  Marjorie Enya proposed to her girlfriend, Brazilian rugby player Isadora Cerullo, on the field after the final between Australia and New Zealand.

Then on Aug. 14, after the ceremony where she was awarded the silver metal for the women’s three-meter springboard, Chinese diver He Zi received a proposal from her boyfriend Qin Kai, also a Chinese diver.

Both proposals have received a lot of attention, but the latter proposal has also received a lot of criticism, with many accusing Kai of taking away from Zi’s achievement.

“He made it about him,” wrote one Twitter user, echoing the sentiment others have expressed in comment sections.

Others expressed displeasure at public proposals.

“Public proposals are *NEVER* about the person being proposed to and all about the person proposing, wrote another Twitter user.

Do you think public proposals are appropriate? Would you ever discourage a client from proposing publically, if asked your opinion?
