Proposal Video Report: The Fake Jewelry Commercial Proposal

Today in proposal news: A Victoria, British Columbia, man proposed to his girlfriend by staging a fake jewelry commercial, an ingenious way to get the whole thing on tape.

Dave Wallace is a commercial photographer and videographer, and his fiancée, LJ, is an actress. He pretended that a client enlisted him to shoot a  “totally over-the-top cheesy jewelry commercial”—then surprised LJ by taking over the role of leading man.

As of press time, the video had only 5,226 views (the most popular proposal videos have views in the millions), but we expect that number to climb.

There isn’t a great view of the ring in the video, but Wallace confirms to JCK that it was custom made by Victoria’s Armeni Jewelers using stones from Wallace’s grandmother’s engagement ring.

This isn’t the first time an ad has done the work of getting a woman to say yes. In May, Win Betteridge of Betteridge jewelers in Greenwich, Conn., proposed to his girlfriend in an ad in Greenwich magazine.
