Professionalism Adds Value to Purchases

The factors that go into making a professional are many and complex, according to Ruth Batson, CEO and executive director of the American Gem Society. Batson spoke to jewelers Friday afternoon during a seminar titled “The Added Value of Professionalism.”

Among the elements necessary to becoming a professional are a core of knowledge and skills. Other traits are accountability and responsibility, great leadership and communication abilities, a passion for excellence and scholarship, and honesty and integrity.

Two examples of great professionals are Dr. Edward Gübelin and Robert Shipley. “All great leaders communicate their vision for their cause effectively,” said Batson.
