While some elements of Pinterest’s Summer 2024 Trend Report won’t necessarily be relevant to jewelry retailers (other than in their personal lives), jewelry is a pretty significant component of the report, which details the biggest fashion, beauty, decor, and food trends for the upcoming season, based on the platform’s search data.
If the annual Pinterest report were to be narrowed down to just a few key words, they would go something like this: The bolder the better, and ’90s and Y2K mania is holding strong.
Among the bold fashion aesthetics trending for summer, searches have surged for jewelry-related terms such as maximalist jewelry (up 3,460%), eclectic jewelry (+3,410%), chunky gold jewelry (+700%), and charm necklace (+630%). Pinterest also noted large increases in searches for bag charms and thigh jewelry—two categories relatively new to the jewelry arena, or making a comeback.
Pinterest said searches also are dominating for such maximalist aesthetics as “tomboy femme,” rocker chic, and corp-core (corporate-inspired styles). Pinners also seem interested in new (old) patterns and silhouettes, like leopard print, gingham, puff and bubble skirts, and stripes.
Outside of fashion, the report steers away from jewelry, but in general it reinforces the increase in searches for ’90s and Y2K-era styles. Trending terms such as 2000s chunky highlights, calico hair, 90s layered bob, and baby braid styles hearken back to the hairstyles of that time.
A rise in searches related to “fruity nails,” encompassing colorful polishes and nail art, lends itself nicely to bold, colorful gemstone jewelry. Pinterest also identified an interest in “dopamine home decor,” which in jewelry could point to a resilient demand for feel-good color and joyful themes.
Overall, the report offers plenty of inspiration for both business and home. “Summer 2024 will be the season of trying new trends and embracing bold colorful aesthetics,” according to Pinterest.
“Trending searches show that people are embracing a bold and fearless approach to showcasing their unique tastes and personalities across all facets of their lives,” the report said. “Summer 2024 is all about breaking free from convention and letting personal style shine.”
