There’s been a dramatic shift in men’s fashion over the past decade, and social media has been one influence on it.
We can also look to celebrities such as Harry Styles and Timotheé Chalamet, not only for their break-from-the-norm clothing but for their accessorizing, too. It’s hard to find a red carpet these days without a be-brooched man; even better is seeing a gender-fluid approach to jewelry like diamond or pearl necklaces and earrings.
Gen Z dudes are perming their hair and dressing to stand out rather than fit in—men just seem to care more than ever. That’s made all the more evident with the new Pinterest men’s trend report, subtitled “How men are redefining masculinity through style, substance, and self-care.”
You won’t find a ton of jewelry content here—just a single mention of rings (searches for rings for men aesthetic are up 35%)—but the report doesprovide a lens into what Pinterest-using men are interested in right now, how best to reach them, and how they might be making purchasing decisions.
“There’s never been a better time to reach men on Pinterest,” the report reads, noting that its research shows that “nearly half of Gen Z (ages 18-27) and millennial men (ages 28-43) on Pinterest monthly say they’re loyal to the brands they love and take the time to research products online before making a purchase.
“And male Pinterest users are saving with intention, from building fitness routines and finance plans to discovering new aesthetics and passions. They also don’t shy away from taking risks…almost half of men who use Pinterest identify as risk-takers and first adopters evident in their searches for unique styles, travel destinations, and tech.”
Young men seem to be taking a greater interest in their health and well-being as well as their appearance. According to Pinterest, top search terms include Pilates aesthetic; healthy hair routine; skin health; male nail art designs; vintage grunge; and older brother core, which refers to early-2000s cool-kid styles like baggy pants, jorts, metal chains, and other items that emit a hint of punk and rebellion.
