Jewelry by Gauthier, with stores in Scottsdale and North Scottsdale, Ariz., as well as Santa Barbara, Calif., is a custom-only shop, so you won’t find any familiar vendors’ wares in their cases. But the pieces that are on display do not disappoint: white gold and diamond handcuff earrings, studded men’s wedding bands in rose gold, and not one but two tiaras. The Old Town Scottsdale location I visited yesterday (I was in town for Centurion 2013, before heading down to AGTA Tucson GemFair) is the firm’s headquarters, where all clients’ designs are made in the airy studio in the back. And the space itself is as extraordinary as the jewelry: glass cases; colorfully veined natural stone floor accents; and the occasional geode perched in the middle of displays to remind shoppers how nature makes her masterpieces.
