Phone, Internet Outage Hits Diamond District

47th Street to Verizon: We can’t hear you now.

If your vendors are suddenly unresponsive, it may be because service interruptions have left most residents of three Diamond District buildings without regular phone or Internet service for the past two weeks, occupants tell JCK.

The three buildings affected are 10 West 47th Street, 36 West 47th Street, and 72 West 47th Street, sources said.

“People should know: If you can’t reach your suppliers, it is not because they are out of business or negligent,” says Richard Greenwood of A.F. Greenwood, one of the affected companies. “This is something that is ongoing.”

Greenwood has been told service won’t be totally restored for another week. And while he was able to get phone calls transferred to a cell phone, it can take only one call at a time.

“It’s very frustrating,” he says. “You feel like you are in a third world country. I have had customers who have been trying to reach us for the last ten days. Fortunately, it’s not three weeks before Christmas.”

Verizon could not be reached for comment.
