Although large, even huge, pendants suspended from appropriately heavy chains are very much on-trend, in large part due to the influence of the Lanvin insect-adorned pieces that have been ubiquitous in the fashion press this season, petite pendants on delicate chains feel light and easy to wear as temperatures rise.
Petite pendants present an opportunity to wear a meaningful motif close to the heart. And indeed, hearts are always popular motifs, as are initials and disks engraved with meaningful words. Whimsical designs are also popular. Among the designs that have been featured in the fashion press this season are the following:
Designer India Hicks utilized motifs from the renowned prints of her late father, interior designer David Hicks, in a collection of petite pendants featured in the June 2011 issue of Marie Claire.
A pair of horseshoe necklaces from Alexis Bittar are pictured in the May 2011 issue of Marie Claire.
A Swarovski-crystal accented gold-plated conch shell pendant from Sequin is pictured in the May 2011 issue of InStyle.
Shoe designer Manolo Blahnik’s iconic Mary Janes are memorialized in these pendant necklaces from Tous pictured in the April 2011 issue of Marie Claire.
French fries or, as they are known in Britain, “to-go chips,” are depicted in this delicate pendant necklace from British designer Louise Gray for ASOS, as pictured in the June 2011 issue of Elle.
A collection of petite pendants is featured in this ad from Henri Bendel that ran in the April 2011 issue of Lucky. The necklaces pictured are a heart pendant from Dannijo and a flower necklace with tassel from Miriam Haskell, along with a selection of three pendants sold under the Henri Bendel brand.
A brass necklace from Lulu Frost, brass and metal necklace from Silent Gypsy Jewelry and sterling silver engraved necklace from Zoe Chicco are featured in the May 2011 issue of InStyle.
Sometimes petite pendant necklaces are pictured worn in a small cluster of nearly identical lengths. For an alternate look, wear delicate pendant necklaces in multiples at staggered lengths so that each of the pendants is visible. A similarly delicate necklace of a different style can be included in the mix.
The June 2011 issue of Vogue pictures model Karolina Kurkova wearing a trio of pendant necklaces from designer Aurora Lopez Mejia: a life seed pendant, positive sign pendant, and engraved disc. She also wears “handcuff bangles” by Mejia and a slip dress from Organic by John Patrick.
The July 2011 issue of Vogue pictures model Ruby Aldridge wearing a pair of layered pendant necklaces identified only as her own. She also wears a jacket from Haider Ackermann, shirt and pants from Alexander Wang, and an Express tank top. The clutch is a Louis Vuitton crocodile pouch with a “handcuff chain” that serves as a bracelet around her wrist.
The cover of the July 2011 issue of Lucky features actress and designer Lauren Conrad wearing three layered dainty necklaces: a turtle necklace from Jennifer Zeuner Jewelry, a charm necklace from danafaith.com, and a “junk” necklace from ericaanenberg.com. She also wears a “chain ring” from madeherthink.com. She wears a blazer and shorts from Paper Crown, L’Agence tank, Zinke “bralette,” and shoes from Christian Louboutin.
An ad for Harry Winston seen in the June 2011 issue of Vogue among other places, combines white and yellow versions of a diamond-adorned pendant necklace in staggered lengths along with coordinating bracelets, rings, earrings and hair adornment.
A pair of layered petite pendant necklaces, unidentified as to designer, adorn a romper and handbag from Gianni Bini in this ad from Dillard’s that ran in the May 2011 issue of InStyle. The model also wears a selection of friendship bracelets, another jewelry trend very popular this season that I’ll be talking about in an upcoming post.
