The Paul Smith x Pyrrha Collaboration Is Just Dandy

The last month or so has brought news of some pretty exciting designer collaborations in the jewelry world, from Nambé x Rémy Rotenier to the next wave of talent to participate in Rio Tinto’s Diamonds With a Story program.

The latest partnership to capture our attention pairs a celebrated British fashion brand with a small Vancouver-based maker of handmade silver (and sometimes 14k gold) trinkets and talismans inspired by Victorian wax seals and heraldry. The result: Paul Smith x Pyrrha, a five-piece jewelry capsule that draws on the whimsical imagery of the Paul Smith crest (scroll down to see a close-up so that you can fully appreciate the design direction).

Whether it’s a damson plum–colored overcoat or a trim Italian wool blazer, meticulous tailoring is essential to Paul Smith’s DNA. But the label has evolved into an internationally recognized lifestyle brand known for splashy stripes, off-kilter floral prints and graphics, and accessories that somehow manage to be both playful and sophisticated. Like an inside joke, or a clever pun you might not be cool, or quick, enough to get.

One person who definitely gets it? Queen Elizabeth II, who knighted Paul Smith in 2000. And to mark the occasion, Smith fittingly designed a “coat of arms.” Speaking of puns…

“It was exciting to have the opportunity to apply Pyrrha’s aesthetic to the original crest imagery,“ said Pyrrha designer Wade Papin in a statement. “Paul always says that ‘you can find inspiration in everything,’ and we definitely subscribe to that philosophy.”

And what’s with the rabbits? They’re kind of like the Paul Smith brand’s spirit animal. The critters also serve as a personal talisman for the designer.

For obvious reasons, the rabbit signet ring and necklace, both pictured below, are my personal favorites.

Handcrafted in reclaimed sterling silver, the collection is available online, and in select Paul Smith stores in London, Hamburg, New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. Prices start at $230.
