Ohio Jeweler Closes Store to Focus on Another

After 35 years at James Wolf Jewelers in Mt. Healthy, Ohio,
owner James Wolf is closing the doors on May 28.

“It’s in a more depressed area now and we have another
store in a more vibrant area, so we’re going to focus on that more,” Wolf tells
JCK.

Wolf says sales in the Mt. Healthy location have been
dropping for the last few years. “We just don’t see them turning around in that
area,” he says.

Sales have been increasing at the second location in Mason,
Ohio, Wolf says. The store’s sales are already ahead of last year’s
numbers.

The Mt. Healthy location has been a jewelry store since 1920
and Wolf started his jewelry career there when he was 15 years old. He has
spent the last 35 years working there.

The store sold a lot of bridal throughout the years and Wolf
is fond of those sales. “It was great helping all the young couples with their
engagement rings but we’re not getting the young couples in that area
anymore,” he says.

Wolf says, in its better days, shopping at the store was like
a family tradition. “Parents would bring in their kids, who were recommended by
their parents.” The jeweler is still helping longtime clients in its Mason
location.

“It’s sad, there were a lot of memories ther,” he says. “I’ve worked
with a lot of jewelers and gemologists there and now they are all around the
country. But it’s nice that I get to see them at shows.”
