When the Union College men’s ice hockey team in Schenectady, N.Y., won the NCAA Division I Championship, Greg Kelly, vice president of Northeastern Fine Jewelry, knew just how to mark the accomplishment.
He did it by presenting commemorative pucks to Union College president Stephen C. Ainlay, athletic director Jim McLaughlin, and head coach Rick Bennett at a ceremony at City Hall following the win.
The pucks, which Kelly designed himself, are sterling silver, engraved with “2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Champions,” and emblazoned with 2.3 cts. of diamonds in the shape of Union College’s signature U.
“Union College is local to us, they’re in our backyard—our flagship store is on Union Street. We are sponsors of multiple local teams, but hockey was the missing piece, so we decided to give them some ceremonial awards, and we’ll sponsor them starting next season,” said Kelly.
