The Latest News from Instagram: February 2023

For better or worse, Instagram is constantly changing. It’s important to keep informed about Instagram’s features, as it’s one of the most popular social media platforms for a business or individual. Here are some of the latest updates.

Quiet Mode Added

For those who feel like they can’t stay away from Instagram, the platform announced a new feature that might help: quiet mode.

Created to encourage users to set boundaries, quiet mode turns off notifications and sends an auto-reply to any direct messages that come through while it’s enabled, letting others know quiet mode is on.

Quiet mode’s hours can be customized, but Instagram says it will prompt teens to use it when they spend a specific amount of time on the app late at night. Quiet mode is available to everyone in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

New Dynamic Photo Option

If you haven’t yet made yourself an avatar on Instagram, now might be the time to try. The platform announced it’s introducing a dynamic photo feature that will let users showcase both their profile photo and avatar. Visitors to a user’s profile will have the option to flip between the two.

Another cool detail about the change: This is the first time Instagram is offering avatar animation—the avatar will wave when it’s displayed.

Instagram Reportedly Considering Paid Verification

With all the news about the verification mess over at Twitter, could Instagram possibly be jumping into the blue-check game as well?

It appears so, according to a report from TechCrunch, which cites new references in Instagram’s code that suggest the company is working on a verification system. It’s reported that recent code snippets refer to a “paid blue badge” and a new subscription product.

Lead Forms for Businesses

Instagram recently added a new way for business users to gather information from its followers and potential customers with the lead form feature.

According to Social Media Today, it’s unclear whether this feature is simply being tested or will be made official sometime in the future.
