If you’re in the mood to discover something new this summer, look no further. Meet Karina Ariana, a new jewelry collection introduced by the New York–based Ross Metals. The company specializes in sterling silver fine jewelry, under designer and namesake Karina Ariana Zakarian.
Zakarian grew up in Istanbul, and artistry is in her blood: Her father was an artist and jeweler, and she credits him, along with her worldly travels, with inspiring her, as she focuses her artistic side solely on jewelry. Executive director of marketing David Freed was kind to walk me through the line, and I learned not only of the variety offered, but of his affection for the brand as well. “In my 40 years as a jewelry designer, jeweler, and salesman, I have never seen a line quite like this. I could sell anything from diamonds, pearls, and watches to ice in winter, but I chose Karina Ariana because I connected with Karina’s approach to nature.”
Karina Ariana lays forward a bounty of affordable, totally giftable (for oneself or another) pieces, in a wide variety of styles. With most everything retailing under $1,000 and many of those pieces even under $200, I think they are a great option for summer as customers seek new vacation jewels and little pick-me-ups to get them through the season—and I can see the pieces selling well into winter as the holiday shopping season gets under way.
I particularly like the Wildfire collection, a line of mixed metals (18k and vermeil) featuring nature-inspired designs and creatures. Freed agrees with me. “I love the snakes, spiders, lizards, flowers, and leaves. The line is diverse, but I love that portion the most, and as a new company, I have all the confidence it is going to evolve and become a major brand.”
During its first year at JCK Las Vegas, I’m told that the collection also proved popular with show goers, with comments that the pieces are “artistic,” “clever,” and so on.
Since snakes and lizards might not be everyone’s bag, there are plenty of other options: colorful jewels with quartz centerpieces and CZ accents, as well as fantastically whimsical pendants and necklaces with pavé CZ. I challenge someone to look through the entire line and not find at least one thing they like; all personalities, styles, and tastes are welcome here.
