“Once in a Blue Moon” Exhibit to Open at Aaron Faber Gallery

A new jewelry exhibit opens this Thursday at New York City’s Aaron Faber Gallery: Titled “Once in a Blue Moon,” the event is themed around blue gemstones and features the work of 21 invited jewelry artists, including many JCK editor favorites, from Dana Bronfman to Atelier Zobel/Peter Schmid.

The participating designers, including Aaron Faber newcomers such as Forge & Foundry, Pascal Lacroix, Oliver Schnoor, and Julie Shaw, have submitted necklaces, earrings, and rings made expressly for the exhibition, all featuring aquamarines, labradorite, sapphires, chalcedony, lapis lazuli, moonstones, and more.

Aaron Faber co-owner Patricia Faber says the blue moon idea occurred to her some time ago. She was inspired by last year’s coverage of noteworthy lunar events like the Blood Moon and the Super Moon. And last fall, as she planned and strategized her upcoming trip to the Tucson gem shows, “my thoughts were completely around gemstones. And the two came together with the idiom of once in a blue moon, focusing on blue gemstones, and, of course, moonstones.

“Curating a show like this is just great fun—putting together jewelers whose work we’ve admired for a long time but haven’t had time to explore, new designers who are starting out, and established makers whose work we love to show and sell.”

Below, Faber highlights a few favorite selections that exemplify the great variety of aesthetics—and spectrum of blue gemstones—that the exhibit is showcasing.

Tom and Jutta Munsteiner Magic Face necklace
“I am very excited by this necklace by Tom and Jutta Munsteiner titled Magic Face, which features a 72 ct. aquamarine in platinum. It’s a very modern version of a ‘magnificent jewel.’ ”
Karin Jacobson double fan ring
“Karin Jacobson’s double fan ring is a fresh take on her signature open fan form in a fun, easy-to-wear aquamarine ring.”
Alishan turquoise diamond aquamarine necklace
“Alishan’s  turquoise, diamond, and aquamarine necklace is classic in design with an unexpected and lovely gem combination.”
Baiyang Qiu sapphire bangle bracelet
“Baiyang Qiu’s sapphire bangle bracelet—elegant and innovative.”
Petra Class 22k gold and lapis earrings
“Petra Class dominates the blue category with her bold 22k gold and lapis collection.”

Top: Among the designers and artists exhibiting in “Once in a Blue Moon” at NYC’s Aaron Faber Gallery is Atelier Zobel/Peter Schmid, who created this cocktail ring with moonstones and diamonds in sterling silver and palladium. The show is on view through May 25; a selection of the works on display is also available online.
