New Delhi’s New Consumer-Facing Fair Puts Spotlight on Bridal Jewels

Given that Indian brides love their diamonds and gold so much, the Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India and the India Trade Promotion Organization decided to appeal to them directly in a new B-to-C jewelry venture. The India Gem & Jewellery Fair took place April 12–15 in New Delhi at the Pragati Maidan, part of a beautiful Metro station with exhibition space, and more than 100 jewelers and jewelry designers participated.

Leading Indian brands like Gitanjali Gems, Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas, and Forevermark Diamonds were among the vendors who brought plenty of traditional Indian diamond and gold styles.

Another first: New Delhi’s first edition of India International Jewellery Week, a fashion show that kicked off the fair, and was complete with models, celebrities, couture clothes from Archana Kochchar, and a new luxury bridal line dubbed Shuddhi (Hindi for purity) Jewels from Gitanjali, which dedicated the line to female empowerment. The styles are a nod to the elements of earth, water, air, and fire “that embody the feminine psyche,” according to the manufacturer, which also operates Samuels Jewelers in the U.S..

The following are a few stunning outtakes from the show that reveal Indian women’s exotic and excellent taste. (These clearly aren’t the typical ensembles of an American bride!) All models are wearing pieces from Gitanjali’s new Shuddhi collection.
