Neiman Marcus Wants to Fly Someone to Germany to Design the Perfect Locket

The Neiman Marcus Christmas book is typically full of over-the-top extravagances, and this year it’s offering a $100,000 trip to Idar-Oberstein, Germany, so a buyer can design his or her “perfect locket.”

For $100,000, someone will be flown (though airfare is not included) to the German gemstone hub of Idar Oberstein, where he or she will join jewelry designer and photographer Monica Rich Kosann on a quest to design the perfect locket.

In the German town, the buyer will pick out a gemstone for the piece and collaborate on the design. (The gemstones must be chosen from a preselected assortment.) In addition, he or she can stop by Kosann’s studio in New York City, for an optional family portrait that can be kept inside the locket. The buyer will receive the completed handmade piece, as well as a handmade rendering, soon after.

If anyone does purchase the trip, Neiman Marcus will donate $1,500 to the Heart of Neiman Marcus Foundation, dedicated to supporting youth arts education.

In last year’s Christmas book, Forevermark made available a similar package for $1.8 million, which included a trip to London and a Namibian diamond mine, as well as dinner with the De Beers CEO and chance to design a custom ring. It was not clear if anyone made that purchase.
