More Necklaces to Get Your Layer On With

I’m doubling down on the layered necklace trend this week, after sharing yesterday’s Britt’s Pick, a multistrand, layered-look necklace by Los Angeles jeweler Kattan (you can read more about that here).

The thing is, I’ve been quite smitten with a number of necklaces lately—all sorts, from pendants to bibs—but I’ve admired them from a safe distance. I never take off the pendant I wear currently (the letter “E,” for my baby girl), so if another piece doesn’t look good with that, it’s not happening.

But seeing how a variety of necklaces have been layered on the runways recently has inspired me anew, and I’ve realized that I don’t have to sacrifice my fun playing with a variety of styles while still maintaining my semipermanent piece in its rightful place. One of two things will happen with this pendant: The baby will yank it off—she’s come close—or I will take it off to put it around her neck at some age yet to be determined.

So if you (or your customers) are anything like me, and sentimentality has you standing on the sidelines of the layering game, fear not! You can totally still do it. Just look for complementary styles (in my case, I may lean toward other necklaces in yellow gold), and build from there. Or, if  fashion week is any indication, just wear whatever you want: An eclectic curation of seemingly random finds has proven more chic than I thought possible, so why not mix it up and have a little fun?
