I was browsing the website of Yun Yun Sun the other day, the eponymous jewelry line from the Taipei, Taiwan–based socialite Aimee Yun Yun Sun introduced in 2006.
The brand offers a mix of fine and fashion jewelry, a recipe whose ingredients include 18k gold with diamonds and gemstones and equal parts vermeil, cubic zirconia, and acrylic. The combined offering enables the independent line to offer a range of styles, from the bold and daring—at a friendly price—to those that are, while still very current, more classic and therefore enduring.
Yun Yun Sun’s fine line comprises everything we’re into right now: single huggies and stud earrings, initial charms, rainbow gemstones, and a line of word jewelry using Mandarin characters, representing words and phrases such as “love,” “luck,” “huh,” “awesome,” and, my personal favorite, “go away” (actually, my real favorite features an expletive not rated for family television, but its initials are WTF). Much of the word jewelry is also available in English.
But it was the collection on the website’s homepage that sparkled in my eye during this visit, one featuring gemstones shimmering like rainbows in a luminescent way no natural stone could. This would be an offering on the fashion jewelry side, one that sparks a bit of fun just when fun is needed. It’s the eye-catching kind of jewelry that commands one to go out, but its price point is lenient enough for those who want to get dressed up with nowhere to go (read all of us).
Nebula is its name, and this capsule collection is made up of earrings, necklaces, and bracelets—ones that can only be described as “statement.” When you have styles as eye-catching as fringy collar necklaces and bangles, oversize dangling heart earrings, and the like, what’s a more apt word to describe them?
These won’t be your everyday jewels—they’re far from the easy-wear style staples that make up Yun Yun Sun’s fine jewelry line—and their materials (14k gold-plated brass, cubic zirconia) won’t endure the wear that precious materials can. What these are, however, are your looks for right now—something loud and bold, gloriously glimmering for anyone who is fortunate enough to see. Want something attention-grabbing to wear to your next Zoom conference? Nebula may just be it.
