Those who prefer staying in will love them, too

If you follow me on Instagram (if you’re not interested in pictures and cats and food, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it), you may have noticed that I spent a couple of weeks away getting in touch with my outdoorsy side. Yeah, I didn’t know I had one, either. But it turns out that I do, and I embraced it fully on a recent journey along the Blue Ridge Parkway. From yurts to actual tents to, okay, some pretty oustanding B&B’s (I didn’t say I spent all of my time with nature), I familiarized myself with a different kind of vacation this year. And it seems those types of vacations are trending—the camping ones, I mean. It might have something to do with the 100th anniversary of the U.S. National Parks. It may be because Instagram has caught glamping fever.

Whatever the reason, or combination of them, more travelers are opting to unplug their iPhones and plug into Mother Earth (minus those few seconds it takes to broadcast on Snapchat how well we’re doing being tech-free, womp womp). I don’t necessarily think the vacation trend is affiliated with the botanically detailed jewelry that’s bursting on the scene (perhaps I’m now just looking for it), but I do think it’s important. At JCK Las Vegas this year, I saw more and more jewelry kissed by Mother Nature—mostly in the form of flower and leaf silhouettes, but also ones with nature-inspired textures, plus insects and other critters—and now that I’m a total outdoors person (don’t laugh. Maybe laugh a little), I’m thrilled that more jewelers are answering the call. So whether your shoppers’ tastes for the outdoors range from climbing mountains to gardening to simply keeping fresh flowers on the table, I wager you’d be hard-pressed to find someone not impressed by any (or all) of these.
