Joy can come from a personal relationship, a sense of accomplishment, or just an appreciation of the good things in life.
For London-based Lebanese fine jeweler Nada Ghazal, finding her own definition of joy has been challenging, but it gave birth to her latest collection, Whispers of Joy.
The collection—Ghazal’s first since she opened her first store, in London, last year—came to her in her darkest hour: after two family members were killed in April by bombing in Lebanon.
Working through her grief, Ghazal sought out ways to realize joy in the moment, and let its power wash over her. “At some point, I made a conscious decision to stop sitting with the heaviness and to invite joy back into my life, even in small ways. That shift became the soul of the collection,” she says.

“Designing Whispers of Joy became a very emotional and healing process for me because it was created during a particularly heavy period in my life,” says Ghazal. “I kept sketching, amending, changing, and beginning again, almost searching for light through the creative process itself.”
Ghazal uses gemstones from her Beirut atelier for Whispers of Joy’s 18k gold rings, earrings, chokers, bracelets, and necklaces. She designed them to represent her movement from darkness to light—white diamonds and pearls for more reserved emotions, brightly colored stones for big, dramatic feelings—and she hopes they encourage wearers, too, to embrace those precious joyful moments.

“Creating the pieces alongside my team in Beirut reminded me why I fell in love with jewelry in the first place: its ability to hold emotion, memory, hope, and human connection. Whispers of Joy is not about ignoring pain but about choosing softness, color, beauty, and joy despite it,” Ghazal says.
Photos for the Whispers of Joy campaign also capture a transformation from quiet contemplation to joy. In some photographs, the model is looking out, not focused on the camera, as if she were lost in thought. In some, she stares almost defiantly into the camera as she grins. Other images seem to catch her in a lighthearted memory, perhaps of a friend or love.
Ghazal previewed the collection in London last week with a gathering at her store of local clients and media. It goes live on her website next Monday, June 15.
