New Orleans–based art and antiques gallery M.S. Rau is offering a piece of rock ’n’ roll history: a gold ID bracelet worn by Elvis Presley in the mid to late 1950s,the very era when he was breaking out as a global icon. Elvis’ style in those years helped define a look of rebellion, and this bracelet represents the signature aesthetic and sentiment of his early stardom.
The 10k yellow gold bracelet, featuring a classic heavy link design centered on a polished plate engraved with the name “Elvis,” was a staple in Presley’s personal wardrobe during that time, an everyday accessory that saw him through the heights of fame. The late King of Rock ’n’ Roll would have been 91 years old today.
As was his habit, Elvis eventually gave the ID bracelet away to one of the people he trusted most. He gifted it to his longtime bodyguard Dave Hebler, a key member of the “Memphis Mafia,” during a meeting in his office at Graceland in the 1970s. (Presley also gave his personal jewelry pieces to friends, his karate instructor Ed Parker, and singer J.D. Sumner, among others.)
Priced by M.S. Rau at $39,850, the bracelet is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the Elvis Presley Museum, the only institution officially licensed by the Graceland estate to verify personal items. Such ironclad provenance is rare in the world of celebrity memorabilia.
With the Elvis bracelet, M.S. Rau presents fans and collectors with a chance to own an intimate relic from the man who altered the cultural landscape—a piece of jewelry you can’t help falling in love with.
