Montica Jewelry Recognized by the Florida Retail Federation

Stellar customer service and community involvement sealed the deal

The Florida Retail Federation named John and Marichi O’Rourke, owners of fine jewelry boutique Montica Jewelry in Coral Gables, Fla., its Outstanding Retail Leaders for 2014.

The husband-and-wife retailers were selected for their business savvy—but also their dedication to community involvement.

Montica Jewelry often partners up with local nonprofit organizations to help with fund-raising. The store typically donates a diamond or piece of jewelry, which then gets auctioned off to raise money for the charity. “We feel that it’s crucial to give back to the community,” says John.

One of Montica’s most recent fund-raisers was for His House, a South Florida foster home for abused and/or orphaned children. The retailer also recently raised money for the Merrick Society, an organization founded in Coral Gables to help preserve local charities and philanthropic activities.

The business launched in 1982, when Marichi’s parents began selling handmade jewelry out of their home; John joined the company in 1995. The retailers are currently focused on creating the “premier location for bridal jewelry.”

“Our goal is, quite frankly, to make everyone who comes through our door feel comfortable,” John says. In the coming years, the O’Rourkes plan to expand their business to include jewelry pieces that are composed of a larger variety of diamonds and gems.

“We want to be one of the top three stores anyone thinks about when they want to shop for jewelry,” Jonn says. “We want to be the brick-and-mortar they come to when they’re ready to pull the trigger and buy.”
